Delicious Cranberries

Our next incredible ingredient is fruity cranberries; renowned for their sweet but slightly sharp taste and their unique health benefits which make them a perfect part of our magnificent Moist Mixed Berry Get Fruity snack bar! Our cranberries are apple juice infused for moisture so of course no refined sugars are added!

Cranberries are one of the most unique fruits in the world. One of only 3 fruits native to North America, cranberries grow in the wild on long-running vines in sandy bogs & marshes. It was the Native Americans who first took advantage of the cranberry’s many natural attributes; they used them for everything from survival food to medicine & even dye for blankets and clothes; little wonder then that the cranberry has often been called the ‘wonderberry’. Even with its many uses, cranberries weren’t farmed on a large scale until the 1800s. At first, growers picked the berries by hand. They then developed a more efficient dry harvesting technique, later revolutionizing the process with an idea called wet harvesting. By flooding the bog with water, the cranberry’s buoyancy allows it to float to the surface, where they are harvested, dried, infused with juice and then muddled into our delicious Get Fruity snack bars.Cranberries have loads of unique health benefits as I already mentioned let’s explore some of them. Cranberries have been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect which has potential to benefit conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, stomach & digestive disorders & can help out our cardiovascular system, particularly the lining of our vessel walls by stopping plaque building up on the vessel walls and keeping our blood pressures down!

Cranberries are probably best known for their help in preventing urinary tract infections because of their super high levels of antioxidants called (huge word warning!!) proanthocyanidins!! This same antioxidant can also benefit our dental health preventing bacteria from sticking to our teeth and even help reduce inflammation in and around the gums keeping us smiling for longer!

The awesomeness of this berry fruit doesn’t even stop there, cranberries help prevent certain types of stomach ulcers and researchers continue to identify more & more ways that this little berry is beneficial in slowing tumour growth & even shows positive effects against certain types of cancer, including prostate, lung, breast & colon cancer – absolutely amazing! So you can see why we pack our bar with this beneficial & scrumptious berry!

Time to glimpse into the beautiful land that first discovered our wonderberry and where the curving coastline and gently undulating landscape is home to many small farms that specialize in growing cranberries. So grab your suitcase, your passport & most importantly your Get Fruity snack bars and let’s travel across the Atlantic to Cape Cod.

Cape Cod

Cape cod is the ideal place to come and explore or relax in the sun, with the idyllic surroundings of lighthouses, windmills, white sand beaches, sea captains’ homes, dunes, surf & weathered shingle cottages. Regardless of season this part of the world has beauty in abundance; in June the Cape is decorated with pink roses and in spring the roadsides are splashed with daffodils, then in Autumn the whole landscape turns bright crimson with cranberries.

Almost the whole East coast of Cape Cod, a stretch of about 40 miles, is protected as Cape Cod National Seashore, remaining almost unchanged since Henry David Thoreau walked its sands. It’s marvellous beaches, beautiful woodlands of Atlantic white cedar and other conifers, bird nesting grounds, and miles of attractive hiking trails draw thousands of visitors, year round, but especially in the summer. At the very tip of Cape Cod, Provincetown is known for its thriving art and music scene. In 1620, the Pilgrims landed here in the Mayflower, before moving on to found Plymouth. With plenty of beaches, miles of walking and cycling paths, kayaking, and boat excursions, Provincetown is a lively and popular resort. Exhibits in the Provincetown Heritage Museum document its history as a whaling and fishing port, with a 66-foot model of a Grand Bank schooner and racing yacht. It also holds a collection of paintings by notable artists that have worked in Provincetown, including Jackson Pollock and Hans Hoffman. Another museum at the base of the 252-foot Pilgrim Monument — the tallest all-granite structure in the US — displays more from the town’s rich history: ship models, whaling equipment, and maritime artifacts. Climb to the top & experience the spectacular views whilst enjoying a delicious Get Fruity Bar.It would be a shame to leave Cape Cod without taking a boat trip to spot whales and other sea life – or just to get a view from the sea. Various boat tours depart from different harbours. Boats leave frequently from the MacMillan Wharf in Provincetown for whale watching excursions to the Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary, from mid-April through October. Trained naturalists are on board to help passengers observe finback, humpback, and minke whales on tours lasting two-and-a-half to four hours. A definite bucket list experience!!Phew! No wonder our Get Fruity snack bars are so absolutely taste-tastic with our ingredients originating in such amazing and diverse places, I need a tasty snack to re-fuel before our next adventure!
