Living and working in Cornwall has many advantages, a lot of the time we do get stuck behind tractors and we do struggle with getting full signal on our phones but we wouldn’t want to live in any other part of the country.
On the weekend like everyone else in the country we have a little bit more time to enjoy ourselves. Luckily for most Cornish locals, it only take 15-30 minutes to reach the coast and a pretty beach, but for people visiting finding the beach can be as hard as choosing which beautiful spot to spend the day.

Always pack for all weathers….
Cornwall can be bright, glorious sunshine one minute, then the heavens open and you are stuck shivering in your sandals. A jumper or rain jacket is a must item when visiting the coast.
Snacks Snack Snack!!
We always advise to have snacks on hand. Not only will you most likely get stuck behind holiday traffic on the A30 but you may also get stuck in a country lane behind a very slow moving tractor. If you want to stop the kids from squabbling or fight that 11am stomach grumble we suggest you pack the snacks. We suggest a car full of Get Fruity bars, great on the go in the car, in your pack lunch boxes and on the beach. A sat nav or a real life paper map
Although Cornwall does try to keep up with the 21st century, some of our lovely country road or hidden beaches won’t be on your sat nav and you will end up driving around for hours not knowing where to go. If all else fails, go back to basics and get yourself a map.

Arrive Early
If you want to avoid a long, long wait in your hot car with two kids and the dog…. Leave early. The A30 has long delays in the summer months and you can spend your deserved quality time in a hot stuffy car. (See tips on snack) This also applies to the very popular beaches in Cornwall; they get very busy and crowded in the summer months and can leave you driving around in search of a parking space. Arrive early and avoid the hassle.
Pick the right spot
Do your research and find out what you want from a beach. Quiet and secluded try having your packed lunch on beach like Volts Bay. If you are after, surf, shops and restaurants then Watergate bay or Polzeath beach are the beaches for you… These beaches get very busy. If you want a little more then just a day on the beach, try visiting the beautiful Padstow, Polperro or Mevagissey, fishing villages packed with Cornish character.
